Important notice from Auria
Auria Glow and the $25 Amazon lamp

⚠ About the listings on Amazon

If you saw our lamp on Amazon,
it is not ours‼️

We do not sell on Amazon. We never have. There is no Auria storefront there, no Auria listing and no authorised seller. If a lamp there looks like ours, it is not ours. It belongs to another company, and we have nothing to do with what turns up in the box, or with what happens if it stops working.

Now the part most brands would leave out.

We are not going to tell you that every shower lamp on Amazon is a fake, because that is not true. Some of them are real products from other companies, sold openly under their own names, reviewed well by thousands of people. One of them costs about $25.

So we are going to do something most brands will not do on their own website. We are going to point you straight at it.

Our lamp is $79.90. Theirs is around $25. It sells roughly six thousand units a month and it holds 4.3 stars from more than two thousand people. If you are comparing, you were always going to find it.

So let us start there, instead of pretending it is not sitting one tab away.

Why we built it

We built the Glow for one reason.

Auria Glow in a real bathroom, overheads off

The shower is one of the last places where nothing follows you in. No phone, no screen, nobody asking for anything. For a few minutes your body finally gets permission to stop. The only thing still working against that is the light above your head, and it was never a brightness problem. Turning white ceiling light down just gives you dim white ceiling light.

So we built the opposite of the switch. Warm amber, low, thrown sideways across the walls instead of down onto you. Soft cloudy patches that drift and move while you stand there. Enough to see by, not enough to tell your body it is still the middle of the day. That is the entire product, and how much of the room it reaches is the entire point of it.

It is so cozy. It is just one of those moments where I am like, I love myself.

One of 25,000 Auria customers

And then the shelf got crowded.

The problem with comparing them

Every lamp in this category looks the same in a thumbnail.

Six shower lamp listing thumbnails, the Auria Glow among them

Same dome, same little stem, same sixteen colours in the product shots. Ours included. Line six of them up at thumbnail size and you could not tell which one is $25 and which one is $79.90. Neither could we, and we make one of them.

That is not really anyone's fault. It is what a product photo is. A product photo is a photograph of a lamp, and what you are actually buying is a photograph of your bathroom, which depends entirely on what the light does after it leaves the glass. No listing can show you that. Not theirs, and not ours either.

You are not buying a lamp. You are buying how much of the room it covers.

Which leaves exactly one way to settle it. So we ordered theirs.

The part a listing photo cannot show you

Same bathroom. Same shelf.
Lights off.

Both lamps sat in the same spot, the same distance from the wall, at the same height. Same camera, same lens, exposure and white balance locked so neither one could be flattered. Nothing was brightened afterwards, and the towel rail is in both halves of the frame so you can check the scale yourself.

The $25 lamp lights a corner. Ours lights the room.

That is the whole difference. It is also the thing that never makes it into a thumbnail on either side, which is why it took buying one to find out.

Everything else

The rest of it, side by side.

The glass is the row we would argue about. Here is everything else, including the rows we lose.

Light spread

Ours
Auria Glow

Patches across the walls and the ceiling from one spot on the shelf. The frame above is the evidence, shot in one pass with the exposure locked.

The $25 lamp

A bright pool on the surface it is standing on, and very little past it.

Price

Theirs
Auria Glow

$79.90.

The $25 lamp

About $25. They win this row and it is not close.

Water resistance

Even
Auria Glow

IP44. One number, printed once, in every place we mention it.

The $25 lamp

IP44 in one place on the listing and IP65 in another. Same page, same lamp. The rating itself may well match ours.

Battery

Even
Auria Glow

Up to 8 hours on a charge. USB C.

The $25 lamp

Amazon lists battery life as a positive on their reviews, across 58 mentions. We are not going to invent a problem that their own buyers say does not exist.

Returns

Even
Auria Glow

30 days, money back, free returns, no explanation required.

The $25 lamp

30 days, free refund or replacement, handled by Amazon. Genuinely the same window.

If it stops working

Ours
Auria Glow

You email us and a person answers, on average in 32 minutes. Same company next year.

The $25 lamp

A marketplace seller account, and whoever is behind it that month.

What arrives

Ours
Auria Glow

A box you could hand to somebody without wrapping it first.

The $25 lamp

A poly mailer, which is fine, and is part of why it is $25.

One of those rows goes to them outright and three are a tie. We left them in because a comparison where one side wins everything is not a comparison, it is an advert.

On numbers

Ours says IP44 because that is the number.

While we had their listing open, we read the rest of it.

Their listing says IP44 in one place and IP65 in another. Both numbers, same page, same lamp. We are not going to tell you which one is true, because we do not know, and apparently neither do they.

Ours is IP44. Splash proof, built for steam and a wet bathroom, and we would not tell you to stand it under running water. That is the whole claim. If it were higher we would print the higher one, and we would still only print it once.

Not our words

Don't take our word for it. Read theirs.

First, the honest part, because you are going to see it anyway. Their listing holds 4.3 stars from more than two thousand people, and 86% of those are five star. For $25, most buyers are happy, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

We are interested in the other 14%, and in particular what Amazon itself says about it. Amazon writes a summary at the top of the reviews on every listing, generated from the reviews rather than from the seller. Here is theirs, in full:

Amazon's review summary block on the competitor listing

While many say it works great, some report it stopped working after a month of use.

Amazon's own review summary, on their listing

And here are the reviews underneath it, in their own words. We have not typed these out and we have not tidied them up. They are screenshots, so you can go and find every one of them yourself.

A lamp that works for a month is a perfectly fair outcome on a $25 lamp. It is a worse outcome on the shelf in your bathroom, because the thing you were actually buying was the ten minutes, not the object.

One more thing

You are going to go and look at that listing. Good.

Three things worth checking while you are there.

  1. Find the waterproof rating, then find it again.

It appears twice and it does not say the same thing both times.

  2. Read the summary line Amazon wrote at the top of the reviews.

Not the star count. The sentence underneath it.

  3. Look at the customer photos of the light on the wall.

Not the studio shots, the real ones taken in real bathrooms. Then ask yourself how much of the room is actually lit.

Then come back, or do not. Either way you will have chosen with your eyes open, which is the only version of this we are interested in.

The part you cannot check before you buy

When you email us, a person answers.

Every row further up is something you could verify from a listing if you wanted to. This is the one you cannot, and it is the only one that matters after the box is open.

That is not a number we wrote. It is the one our helpdesk calculates from every message we answer. The average store on the same platform takes just under fourteen hours. The fastest 5% take just over an hour. We answer in about half that.

A person writes those replies. There is no bot, no ticket queue you disappear into, and no seller account that quietly changes its name next month. If the lamp turns up damaged, if the remote will not pair, if you just want to know which colour people actually end up using, you send an email and somebody who has one of these on their own shelf writes back.

It is the least exciting thing on this page. It is also most of what separates spending $25 from spending $79.90.

Twenty five dollars is a fair price for a lamp.
Eighty is a fair price for the room.

Very high quality. It is very bright for being so small, feels expensive and has a ton of different light settings. Highly recommend!!

I am obsessed with this lamp! It has so many color options and can be used as a moving wavy effect or still like a regular lamp. I put mine in my shower so I do not have to use the bigger light.

I love this little lamp so much! Tons of customizations and it holds a charge for a long time. I got it for my bathroom to add a nice ambiance to bath time. I like how you can take the top off to get the wavy projections onto the wall and ceiling. Really good buy overall!
